Grants and funding to help you volunteer overseas
Volunteering & Travel Advice / 09 October 2024We’ve put together a list of some of best current funding, bursaries, grants and scholarships which are available for volunteering abroad.
Each one has different criteria and amounts available, so you can look through the different options to find which ones could suit you best.
UK wide schemes
- The Turing Scheme - UK government programme which provides funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world
- Rotary Foundation Scholarships – funding for projects which help protect the environment, provide clean water, sanitation, and support education
- Young Explorer's Trust - grants for young adults aged up to 25 who are planning adventurous pursuits or expeditions
- John Muir Trust - Des Rubens and Bill Wallace Grant - grants of up to £2,000 to help give people the opportunity to seek out life-changing experiences in wild places
- The Churchill Fellowship - funding for people aged 18+ to discover new ideas that they care passionately about anywhere in the world
Regional UK schemes
- Jack Petchey Foundation - grants of up to £400 for overseas volunteer programmes for young people in London and Essex
- Sir Philip Reckitt Educational Trust - contributions towards the cost of travel and courses for people who live in Norfolk and Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire
- The South of Scotland Youth Awards Trust - supporting young people aged 17-25 from the Scottish Borders or Dumfries and Galloway regions to join projects worldwide
US Funding
- Go Overseas Study and Intern Abroad Scholarship - open to all students enrolled in a US college or university, including international students. $500 awards to support volunteering overseas
